Tuesdays with TMAC – Superior Run!

(Bill W) September 15, 2009 – Terry McCarl added another track to his records when he finished atop a strong field of IRA competitors at the Superior Speedway in northern Wisconsin on Friday. He added a top five at the Jerry Richert Memorial on Saturday night, and the Big Game Treestands #24 is planning for four more races in the next week.

TMAC smashed the track record at Superior, lowering the mark to 12.715 seconds, a half a second faster than second quick Johnny Herrera. “I’m kooky about these records, so setting this one is really cool,” he says. “Also, I have to thank Osborn and Son Trucking who put up $200 for quick time.”

After a solid third place run in the heat, the Altoona, Iowa driver drove a patient race to win his 18th feature of the year, and the 54th racing facility in his career. “The track was really racy and slicked off nice for the feature,” he says of his run. “It had both a top and a bottom to it. We were into second behind Erin Crocker for awhile there. I was really waiting on lapped traffic for an opportunity. We were able to get by and the rest of the race went smoothly.”

One of TMAC’s favorite events of the year was held Saturday night. “I really appreciate the promotion that the Richert Family and Cedar Lake Speedway put into this event,” he says. “It is always first class. As a promoter myself, I really appreciate the efforts they put in.”

Again, TMAC set quick time amongst the 34-car field assembled. “It was lucrative again,” he says. “Osborn Trucking put another $200 in, and the Richert Family added $100 too. I appreciated that. The racetrack has some new clay, and it looks like it’s some good stuff.”

Early on, things were looking good to TMAC as he lined up fourth in the main event honoring the 1962 Knoxville Nationals champion. “We settled in behind Brooke (Tatnell) and Johnny (Herrera) there for awhile,” he shares. “I could feel the car was getting better and better. I felt good inside my helmet at that point.”

Opportunity knocked around the halfway mark. “Johnny got into the wall a little bit, and I got under him,” says TMAC. “I took a shot at Brooke and ended up spinning. I did a complete 360 and went through the infield. We came back on the track in fifth, but something cut a small hole in the right rear.”

Under green flag conditions, the tire held its own, but once the cautions flew, that was not the case, and TMAC settled for fifth at the end. “We were able to get back by (Mark) Dobmeier for fourth, but the last caution really was not good for our tire,” he says. “(Billy) Balog was able to get by us after that, and we were just lucky to get out of there with fifth.”

This weekend the Big Game Treestands #24 will compete with the World of Outlaws on Wednesday night at the Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa, head to the IRA race on Friday in Oshkosh, run with the WoO again on Saturday at Deer Creek Speedway in Minnesota, and race at Cheater’s Day in South Dakota on Sunday.

Several Fans ask: Where in the heck can we see the Big Game Treestands Motorsports #24 the rest of the season?

TMAC Answers: Keep checking our schedule at www.TerryMcCarl.com. Right now, we have Spencer, Oshkosh, Deer Creek and Huset’s this week. Next week, we’ll run the Shaheen Race at Jacksonville (Illinois) on Friday. I really appreciate the way they’ve promoted that event, and I want to be there supporting them. That Saturday (September 26), we’re planning on Terre Haute with the All Stars. We’re committed to the Cowtown Nationals (Cowtown Speedway in Kennedale, TX) on October 9 and 10. Again, I love the way they’ve promoted things, led by Darin Short, and I really appreciate what they are doing for the sport of sprint car racing at that track. We know we’ll be in Charlotte for the WoO finale, but other than those shows, we’ll decide as we go.
