Tuesdays with TMAC – Time to Head Out!

(Bill W) February 7, 2011 – Terry McCarl will be heading South this week with an eye on getting the 2012 season started in Georgia and Florida. He and the TMAC Motorsports #24 team are finalizing preparations for an ambitious schedule that will tentatively see 90+ races with several sanctioning bodies. He’ll head in much healthier than last season when a serious leg injury suffered in 2010 still hampered him.

The schedule listed at www.TerryMcCarl.com is tentative, but it does promise more travel than last season for the veteran. “Obviously, if I had the sponsorship, we’d know exactly what our schedule looks like, but that’s what we’d like to do,” says TMAC. “I’m pretty pumped and very excited. We have many of the people helping us that we’ve had in the past, and we’re hoping to make it to Georgia this weekend. Brad (Goebel) has been working his butt off getting things ready.”

One year ago, TMAC was slated to start on front row in the All Stars $10,000 to win feature event at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Georgia. Unfortunately, the race was a wash and not made up. The series returns there this Friday and Saturday. “Unfortunately, I don’t think they’re doing that (letting him start on the front row),” he says. “I’m going into the season a lot better than last year though. Last year, I couldn’t spend more than an hour at a time in the shop the way my leg was. It was hard just getting in and out of the car. I’m in a lot better shape, thanks to Kosama of Altoona. I wish I was in a little better shape, but I’m still working on it.”

Some late arriving equipment has the team hustling. “We got our cars late, and we’ve got one motor right now,” says TMAC. “It’s scary going on the road with one engine. But I’m really excited about this year, and getting back to having some fun and winning races.”

TMAC is most excited about those partners who support him. Some of them have been on board for more than two decades. “I’m pumped about Bosma Poultry being back on board,” he says. “We’re getting our new truck and trailer that they helped with ready to go. Rossie Feed & Grain, Country Builders Construction, DeBerg Concrete, Phil & Vivian and so many more are like family to me. We wouldn’t turn down a huge corporate sponsor, but I really like the fact that the people who are our sponsors are our friends as well.”

Though Knoxville and Huset’s are still on the schedule most Saturday and Sunday nights, more travel is planned for races with sanctions like the World of Outlaws, All Stars, IRA, MOWA and ASCS. “We are traveling a bit more this year,” says TMAC. “We’re planning on going to California with the Outlaws. We’ll be hanging with the Offill family (Country Builders Construction) out there and having a good time. We have a lot of friends out there from when we drove there from 1990 to 1992. They have three weekends put together out there, and it reminds me of the days when I started in racing. It’s good to see the Outlaws going out there both in the Spring and Fall.”

Bill W asks: What will the schedule look like?

TMAC Answers: Really it depends on where we are with our sponsorship, and our equipment. The plan is to travel a bit more than we did last year. I’m looking forward to getting back to California this Spring and we’ll take it from there.

This Month in TMAC History!

In 2007, Terry was one of only three drivers to register four “top 5” runs in the six nights of racing at Volusia. The others were Craig Dollansky and Joey Saldana, who also managed four each.
